ATO & Treasury: Australia's E-invoicing Framework
Australia adopted the Peppol e-invoicing framework in 2019 through a joint Australia-New Zealand Government Electronic Invoicing Arrangement. The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) serves as the Australian Peppol Authority, promoting adoption across government and business sectors while maintaining compliance with GST requirements.
While B2B e-invoicing remains voluntary, all Commonwealth agencies have been required to receive e-invoices since July 2022, with many state governments also adopting the framework for enhanced efficiency and transparency.
